Democracy for Federation of St Kitts and Nevis suffers crushing blow on legal technicality despite compelling evidence of fraud!

July 31, 2020

Fearful of losing the June 5th 2020 elections, the Harris-led UNITY concoction resorted to widespread abuse of office, plundering of state funds while they wantonly and disgracefully robbed Kittitians of free and fair elections. UNITY resorted to extensive bribery, electoral fraud and massive instances of corruption and list padding. These gross irregularities resulted in UNITY assuming government.

The St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) rightfully filed petitions with substantive evidence based on eye-witness accounts highlighting the extent to which Harris and his counterparts bought the election in a massive “payments for vote” scheme abusing our patrimony in exchange for votes. However, without the benefit of having the substantive matters heard in court SKNLP has been prevented from pursuing the matter on a simple legal technicality. This is indeed an alarming and disappointing situation for the SKNLP. The June 5th General Election was neither free, fair or free from fear.  It was not conducted on a level playing field. A New York Times article entitled “Latin America is Facing a Decline in Democracy under the Pandemic” published on July 29, 2020, cited the 24-hr lockdown as one of the main impediments hampering opposition efforts to connect with voters while candidates on the government side were allowed to do so.

The SNKLP shares in the disappointment of our overwhelming majority of supporters and we remain resolute in our position that the elections were stolen and fraudulent. The tactics employed have left us with a fractured and deeply divided government and country which needs rescuing. SKNLP expresses our thanks to all our supporters and those who continue to stand on the side of truth, justice and democracy. We remind you that the fight for democracy will be endless for the citizens of St Kitts and Nevis.

SKNLP will be the guardians of our democracy. We will not rest until the will of the majority of the people is recognized.

Government Funds now a Personal Wallet

We are well aware of the traffic dilemma at the recently built KFC drive-through. We are also aware of who the owners of this company are. It is apparent proper consideration was not given to the traffic flow in that area when the establishment was built. The drive-through area creates a “bottleneck” hindrance, blocking the traffic flow at certain hours of the day.

Currently, there is work being done in the area on what seems to be a road expansion to create a free flow of traffic. But who is responsible for this?

We were reliably informed that the government has commissioned the Department of Public Works to expand the roads, inputting a free lane to create a smooth flow of traffic in the area. We were also informed that in addition to the road expansion, traffic lights will also be placed in that area. This is taxpayers’ monies are being used to expand the road to accommodate a private company.

The drive-through is owned by KFC and consideration should be made by the owners to facilitate their patrons. There is ample space on their property to make this adjustment. However, instead, the government has opted to take on this responsibility of incurring additional costs, while neglecting to provide to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis what is duly owed to them. Several persons are still in need of their severance payments after being out of employment for over a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They are yet to receive word as to when such payments will be received, another broken promise by the Harris-led administration.

Deplorable Conditions at the JNF General Hospital.

The JNF General hospital has been used as a political ploy since 2015 for the Team Unity administration. Since the last upgrade to the hospital under the Labour Administration, there has been no vast improvement to the hospital.

The building is in dire need of an upgrade, but due to constant neglect by the government, specifically the Ministry of Health, it continues to suffer. For an extended period, persons have had to go to private doctors because the hospital’s x-ray machine needs to be repaired. For an even longer period dialysis patients have been pleading for a new machine because for them, it is a matter of life and death.

Recently, heavy rainfall led to flooding at the hospital’s eye clinic. Instead of janitors, we saw nurses mopping the area to get rid of the excess water. These nurses are already overworked trying to care for the patients at the hospital with their already limited staff; they should not have to add janitorial services to their plate as well. Enormous pressure is being placed on the already understaffed nurses, who feel voiceless, by management.
